Over the last few years there has been a devel\u00adop\u00adment on our roads that is unpleas\u00adant for many traf\u00adfic par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpants, but advan\u00adta\u00adgeous to only a very few: I am talk\u00ading of the fact that it seems to be en vogue to dri\u00adve cars on the left or mid\u00addle lanes instead of on the right-hand one.<\/p>\n
It is very unnerv\u00ading if the right-hand lane is free, but you still can\u2019t pass-by slow-mov\u00ading vehi\u00adcles block\u00ading the left-hand lanes. In Switzer\u00adland (and, as far as I remem\u00adber, in all of con\u00adti\u00adnen\u00adtal Europe), dri\u00adving on the right-hand side of the road is man\u00addat\u00aded by the law. Plus, there are harsh fines for pass\u00ading some\u00adone by on their right. This means that you fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtal\u00adly have to use the right-most lane, except if that lane is spe\u00adcial\u00adly marked, such as a bus-lane or a direc\u00adtion\u00adal lane. The oth\u00ader lanes are meant for bypass\u00ading slow\u00ader cars only.<\/p>\n
Now, there are those who say that this does\u00adn\u2019t mat\u00adter when the road is free. And if a car comes up from behind and wants to bypass them, they would yield and switch lanes. Nice idea, only it ain\u2019t true. I observe many times that peo\u00adple cozi\u00adly dri\u00adve in the cen\u00adter lane, maybe believ\u00ading that the right-hand lane is reserved for trucks. When close up behind them, being in the right lane, of course, as needs be, then I have to switch two lanes to bypass the idiot block\u00ading the mid\u00addle lane who is obliv\u00adi\u00adous to oth\u00ader traf\u00adfic members.<\/p>\n
There\u00adfore: If there is more than one lane avail\u00adable (such as on high\u00adways), then please stay on the right\u00admost lane<\/em>. Use the oth\u00ader lanes only <\/em>for bypass\u00ading slow\u00ader vehi\u00adcles.
