Recent\u00adly, I stum\u00adbled upon an adver\u00adtise\u00adment for this object. It is a gad\u00adget called Blink(1)<\/strong>, which can be plugged into a USB<\/span> port and which has two col\u00ador LEDs, one on top and one on the bot\u00adtom, that can be con\u00adtrolled by a piece of com\u00adput\u00ader soft\u00adware to show any col\u00ador in any bright\u00adness. The gad\u00adget is cost\u00ading around 40 swiss franks and it has a nice piece of con\u00adtrol soft\u00adware, which can be used to make the gad\u00adget light in many dif\u00adfer\u00adent use\u00adful ways. For exam\u00adple, IFTTT<\/span> (If This Then That) can be used to make it light in var\u00adi\u00adous col\u00adors upon giv\u00aden con\u00addi\u00adtions, or URLs, files or scripts can be called to define col\u00ador com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtions, or a mail\u00adbox can make it light up if a giv\u00aden num\u00adber of new mails arrive, or if the mail of your sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant oth\u00ader arrives or if the mail has a cer\u00adtain sub\u00adject line. Or you warn of a low bat\u00adtery, or when the CPU<\/span> load exceeds a cer\u00adtain percentage.<\/p>\n

The whole thing is hap\u00adpen\u00ading in a very small pack\u00adage, of which the plas\u00adtic cov\u00ader and a alu\u00admini\u00adum frame can even be removed, so that the result\u00ading extreme\u00adly small device fits in my small lava lamp.<\/p>\n

I decid\u00aded to give up my own hard\u00adware, even though design\u00ading the cir\u00adcuit (part 1)<\/a>, build\u00ading it, and pro\u00adgram\u00adming the firmware (part 2)<\/a> was great fun. But thanks to the Blink(1) I can save the exten\u00adsive effort of devel\u00adop\u00ading the com\u00adput\u00ader soft\u00adware.
