The first ques\u00adtion is how you choose one to begin with. If you look for pho\u00adto frames on the inter\u00adnet, you will find dozens of them. My buy\u00ading deci\u00adsion is about two months back. And I did\u00adn\u2019t have pre\u00adcise selec\u00adtion cri\u00adte\u00adria. I guess I chose using price and (adver\u00adtised) func\u00adtion\u00adal\u00adi\u00adty. I final\u00adly bought a Dig\u00adi\u00adtal Pho\u00adto Frame DPF080<\/span><\/a> by Sap\u00adphire<\/a>, and I bought it from Brack<\/a>. Brack is a decent com\u00adput\u00ader shop, who deliv\u00adered com\u00adput\u00ader equip\u00adment a few times in the past depend\u00adably, and which so far did\u00adn\u2019t give me any trou\u00adble with billing.<\/p>\nThe pho\u00adto frame was deliv\u00adered to my home prompt\u00adly after a few days. Nat\u00adu\u00adral\u00adly, I unwrapped it imme\u00addi\u00adate\u00adly and hooked it up right away. Which was\u00adn\u2019t very dif\u00adfi\u00adcult \u2014 no need to open the man\u00adu\u00adal so far.<\/p>\n

Unwrapping and getting up to speed<\/h3>\n
Step 1: Plug the pow\u00ader sup\u00adply into a wall pow\u00ader plug, plug the oth\u00ader end of the cable into the pho\u00adto frame. This is the first time that I felt a slight dis\u00adap\u00adpoint\u00adment. I would have expect\u00aded the frame to at least be able to oper\u00adate on bat\u00adtery, whether rechar\u00adgable or not, in order to place it any\u00adwhere you want with\u00adout the need for exten\u00adsive cabling. But it looks like even nor\u00admal oper\u00ada\u00adtion if the frame requires a wall plug to be nearby.<\/p>\n
Step 2: Use the sup\u00adplied USB<\/span> cable to con\u00adnect the pho\u00adto frame to your com\u00adput\u00ader. This works flaw\u00adless\u00adly. The pho\u00adto frame is rec\u00adog\u00adnized by the com\u00adput\u00ader right away and sev\u00ader\u00adal dri\u00adve let\u00adters are assigned to the numer\u00adous card read\u00ader slots.<\/p>\n Sev\u00ader\u00adal dri\u00adves? Wait a minute! Why this? Only now do I exam\u00adine the frame more pre\u00adcise\u00adly and notice the many card read\u00ader slots. Could this mean that the frame does\u00adn\u2019t have any built-in mem\u00ado\u00adry? That was\u00adn\u2019t indi\u00adcat\u00aded in the advertisement!?!<\/p>\n Step 3: Copy the fotos to the frame. In fact, none of the new dri\u00adves can be accessed, they all com\u00adplain about miss\u00ading media. Shit! I did\u00adn\u2019t con\u00adsid\u00ader that. It looks like one is meant to put the SD<\/span> card from the cam\u00adera straight into the frame in order to dis\u00adplay the pho\u00adtos just tak\u00aden. Which isn\u2019t a bad idea in and of itself. My only prob\u00adlem is that the only cam\u00adera I own is the one built in to the cell phone, whose pic\u00adtures are now, unreach\u00adable for the pho\u00adto frame, safe\u00adly stored on the com\u00adput\u00aders hard disk.<\/p>\n To be able to see some pic\u00adtures right away, I plugged in my 2GB<\/span> USB<\/span> stick and bought anoth\u00ader one lat\u00ader on. Lo and behold! Now I could eas\u00adi\u00adly copy pic\u00adtures or any kind of file between the com\u00adput\u00ader and the pho\u00adto frame. The thing is this: Fill\u00ading the USB<\/span> stick with data is faster when I plug it direct\u00adly into the com\u00adput\u00ader, and then plug it into the frame once it\u2019s full. The USB<\/span> cable between com\u00adput\u00ader and frame thus does\u00adn\u2019t real\u00adly make sense, except if your com\u00adput\u00ader does\u00adn\u2019t have any card readers.<\/p>\n Step 4: Set\u00adting the con\u00adfig\u00adu\u00adra\u00adtion para\u00adme\u00adters in the pho\u00adto frame device. The frame has a few but\u00adtons which help you set a few con\u00adfig\u00adu\u00adra\u00adtion para\u00adme\u00adters and that let you page through your images. You can\u2019t do that through the com\u00adput\u00ader, though, but the remote con\u00adtrol lets you do the same things. The but\u00adtons are a lit\u00adtle shaky, the user inter\u00adface not always intu\u00aditive, but if you try a lit\u00adtle, you will find your way.<\/p>\n Once you have every\u00adthing set up, you can turn your pho\u00adto frame on with plugged in mem\u00ado\u00adry card or USB<\/span> stick, and a few moments lat\u00ader it will dis\u00adplay each foto, one after the oth\u00ader. For my per\u00adson\u00adal taste, the pho\u00adtos are not dis\u00adplayed long enough before the next one comes up, and that time can\u2019t be changed.<\/p>\n The dis\u00adplay itself is impec\u00adca\u00adble. The col\u00adors are bright and shiny. With some pho\u00adtographs, I was even under the impres\u00adsion to be able to dive into the depths of them. An almost-3D-effect, so to speak. It is a plea\u00adsure to look at pic\u00adtures on the screen of that pho\u00adto frame.<\/p>\n How\u00adev\u00ader, as is the case with all LCD<\/span> screens: The pic\u00adture los\u00ades some bright\u00adness when you don\u2019t look at it straight but from the sides or from above. But this is an inher\u00adent flaw of the LCD<\/span> technology.<\/p>\n You can use the but\u00adtons on the device, or the remote con\u00adtrol, to inter\u00adrupt the steady flow of pic\u00adtures and then man\u00adu\u00adal\u00adly step for\u00adwards and back\u00adwards. Since the but\u00adtons are a bit shaky, this way of look\u00ading through pho\u00adtographs is a lit\u00adtle uncom\u00adfort\u00adable and needs get\u00adting used to.<\/p>\n I did\u00adn\u2019t try it out, but the man\u00adu\u00adal says the device is capa\u00adble of show\u00ading movies and play\u00ading music. It can also play a back\u00adground music while show\u00ading pic\u00adtures. There is a stereo plug for ear\u00adphones or to con\u00adnect to your hifi equip\u00adment. The frame does\u00adn\u2019t have its own speak\u00aders, though.<\/p>\n The elec\u00adtron\u00adic pho\u00adto frame DPF080<\/span> by Sap\u00adphire has a 800x600 pix\u00adel dis\u00adplay, the screen size is 8\u2033 or 20cm at 4:3. It has card read\u00aders built in for CF1<\/span>, CFII<\/span>, SD<\/span>, XD<\/span>, MS<\/span>, MMC<\/span> and USB<\/span> mem\u00ado\u00adry sticks. It can dis\u00adplay pic\u00adtures in the for\u00admats JPEG<\/span> and M\u2011JPEG<\/span>, as well as play movies in the for\u00admats MPEG<\/span>, DAT<\/span>, AVI<\/span>. It can also play music in MP3<\/span> for\u00admat. For that pur\u00adpose, it fea\u00adtures an audio stereo jack. It has a remote con\u00adtrol in cred\u00adit card for\u00admat.
