Well, we\u2019ve been vis\u00adit\u00ading friends who emi\u00adgrat\u00aded to Cor\u00adfou a few years ago and who built a house there on their own piece of land. This time, we decid\u00aded take the trip with the fer\u00adry from Venice, instead of using a plane and ret\u00ading a car on the island. We want\u00aded to save on the rental fees.<\/p>\n

The out\u00adward trip turned out to be quite a jour\u00adney. We hit the road sat\u00adur\u00adday very ear\u00adly in the morn\u00ading, at 5am, and drove south through rainy weath\u00ader. The ride as such was uncom\u00adpli\u00adcat\u00aded and with few traf\u00adfic jams. We went past Pad\u00adua at around 12pm. After that, things went hairy. When pass\u00ading over the big bridge con\u00adnect\u00ading Venice to the main\u00adland, the rain came pour\u00ading down so strong that one could bare\u00adly see beyond the wind screen even with the wipers going at full speed, and the road sur\u00adface was cov\u00adered with water, so we had to find our way to the fer\u00adry har\u00adbor at walk\u00ading speed. Then we had to wait sev\u00ader\u00adal hours until we were per\u00admit\u00adted to roll aboard the ship. The ride aboard the ship was rather bor\u00ading, since, due to the bad weath\u00ader, peo\u00adple staied inside almost all the time. We felt sor\u00adry for all those pas\u00adsen\u00adgers that had booked an on-deck pas\u00adsage. Dur\u00ading the ride, access to the cars was not pos\u00adsi\u00adble, the park\u00ading decks were locked as a mea\u00adsure of anti-theft. We had booked so-called air-type-seats. Those are seats just like those in an air\u00adplane, that can be pushed back a lit\u00adtle, but which had slight\u00adly more leg free\u00addom. Cab\u00adins are avail\u00adable too, of course, but at much high\u00ader rates. Sleep\u00ading in those ATS<\/span> is not for every\u00adone, though. My wife said she bare\u00adly closed an eye in it, I was a lit\u00adtle bit bet\u00adter off. I felt rest\u00aded enough, and the next day, there was\u00adn\u2019t any\u00adthing to do than hang\u00ading around the bars and restau\u00adrants. First land\u00ading place was Igoumenitza at 8pm, then 9:30 at Cor\u00adfou. Luck\u00adi\u00adly, we knew our way around the island a lit\u00adtle bit from our last trip there two years ago, and thus we found our friends house almost at first go. The sis\u00adter-in-law, who arrived there the day before by plane, had pre\u00adpared the apart\u00adment we were to stay in nice\u00adly, and so we only had to drink a wel\u00adcome Ouzo and then sink into the beds.<\/p>\n [salbum=10,y,y,right]As it turned out, the weath\u00ader was chang\u00ading con\u00adstant\u00adly between rain show\u00aders of dif\u00adfer\u00ading dura\u00adtion and inten\u00adsi\u00adty, and whole after\u00adnoons of nice and warm sun\u00adshine. The morn\u00adings used to be quite fresh, but rarely below 18 degrees Cel\u00adsius. All in all, we spent only about four after\u00adnoons lay\u00ading at beach\u00ades. The rest of the time, we\u2019ve been vis\u00adit\u00ading the rest of the island or just lazy\u00ading around.<\/p>\n We like Cor\u00adfou a lot. The island has lots of water, which is why every\u00adthing is green, except dur\u00ading the hottest sum\u00admer months. I was explained that Cor\u00adfou is tec\u00adton\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly linked to the alban\u00adian main\u00adland right across. Thus, most of the water, that can be pumped out of the ground almost every\u00adwhere on Cor\u00adfou, stems from the alban\u00adian moun\u00adtains. The preva\u00adlent agri\u00adcul\u00adtur\u00adal cor\u00adfiot prod\u00aduct is the olive. We have seen huge, almost nev\u00ader-end\u00ading olive groves. The high\u00adest moun\u00adtain is the Pan\u00adtokra\u00adtor, around 1000 meters high, whom we did\u00adn\u2019t pay a vis\u00adit this time, because its top was over\u00adcloud\u00aded most of the time.<\/p>\n Being wel\u00adcome on our friends prop\u00ader\u00adty was a priv\u00adi\u00adlege again. Their premis\u00ades mea\u00adsure around 100 x 100 meters. On that prop\u00ader\u00adty, there are two hous\u00ades, one built by our friends, and the oth\u00ader one built from anoth\u00ader Swiss tak\u00ading part in that prop\u00ader\u00adty, who also lends his house to tourists<\/a> because he does\u00adn\u2019t live there all the time. Our friends are hav\u00ading 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 don\u00adkeys, and about a dozen chicken.<\/p>\n The return trip was much more com\u00adfort\u00adable than the out\u00adward trip. We had to be at the port at 6am to be ready to get on board. With a lit\u00adtle delay we left at 7:30, head\u00ading for Igoumenitza over on the main\u00adland. Then through the Adri\u00adat\u00adic sea to Venice. The after\u00adnoon in the mid\u00addle of the ocean was nice\u00adly warm and sun\u00adny. The swim\u00adming pool onboard was filled with water, and a few peo\u00adple actu\u00adal\u00adly took a swim in it, many just enjoyed the sun and deep\u00adened their tan. When arriv\u00ading in Venice the next morn\u00ading, we had a great view, from the huge ship down to the city. The mar\u00adcus place, for exam\u00adple, was in plain view. At around 9am we cleared the ship, got on the high\u00adway, to Milano, Chi\u00adas\u00adso, and then back home.
